Some for good, some for bad. I agree that there has probably been an increase in the 'male freeloader SO', and it's not health, for anyone. I would wager there has been a decrease in the 'female freeloader SO' (which is WAY different than a SAHM for the record) so perhaps it a wash. (and this posted is loaded with over generalizations, so apologies in advance) Women have come a way in equality at home and in the workplace. We now have the ability to do just about anything a can. But lots of us interpreted that to we HAVE to do everything. of us work full time, are the primary care giver to our, and take the lead on house care too. This leads to a lot of overextended women, and men without a sense of place or purpose. Seriously, an unhealthy dynamic for any relationship. Now, women thrive in the work place, and men are wonderful caretakers of the and household. But there is still a lot of stigma attached to both those roles. These days relationships that seem to thrive are successful partnerships where both members are making meaningful contributions. But that is much more nuanced and negotiated between each couple as more traditional roles. And the ebb and flow is much greater over time with who takes the lead on which role. I would much rather be a married woman with now than in any other time period in history by far, no contest. I that I can be ambitious and have a meaningful career while still being a mom. I that my DH can be a nurturer to our without challenging his role as a father. I think the benefits to of us far outweigh the costs.
